Who needs a paci when you've got...

YOUR THUMB!

Yep, it's official! We have our very first thumb sucker. She'll take a pacifier once in a while but because she usually sleeps on her tummy (gasp! yeah, she's clearly the third child!) the thumb seems to work better for her. On her tummy she struggles to keep a pacifier in (gravity works against her) and soon finds comfort in her thumb. Daniel and I aren't sure how we feel about this. With our boys we were able to get rid of the pacifier habit by cutting off the pacifier nipple when they were about two years old. Seeing how we can't cut off her thumb we're a little concerned that this will be a harder habit to break. She sure looks cute though!

Also, you'll notice in a couple of pictures that Elizabeth is wearing a sweater! Can you believe it?! We had a big storm come through that gave us about a week of cool and rainy weather. It was so much fun!

Little Rag Doll

My boys both loved to be cradled in my arms snuggled tight against my body. Well, not this girl! This is her position of preference when it comes to being held. I call her my "little rag doll" because she totally sacks out and her limbs just dangle from my arms. Silly girl!

By the way...she had her 2 month check up on Tuesday and she is growing like a weed. She weighed 11 lbs. 4 oz. and was 24.5 inches long. That puts her in the 66% for weight and "off the charts" for height. Looks like we've got another long one on our hands!

Happy Birthday Grandpa!

Dave's birthday was Sunday and the family all gathered at Grandma's to celebrate. We had a delicious prime rib dinner and Carolyn's homemade rhubarb pie for dessert. Being able to be together for events like this is one of the biggest blessings of life in Kauai!


The boys, along with Uncle Lucas, were in charge of putting the candles in the pie. The smallest tasks bring such joy to these little ones!

The two "little ones". Poor Aden has gotten the boot! Since Elizabeth's arrival Aden has been walking a lot more (no room for three in the stroller or shopping cart) and he has been sitting in his own chair at church or restaurants (between Daniel and me there are only two laps!) Actually though, he LOVES it and is proud to be a "big boy".

HA HA, you've got to love the bright orange rain boots! I had nice little brown shoes picked out for him to wear BUT big brother Aden had black boots to go with his costume so Jonathan HAD to wear his orange boots! Some things just aren't worth fighting. "You want to wear your orange boots, fine honey, whatever makes you happy!"

Oh boy! A tractor!



Our boys spent at least 30 minutes in the petting zoo! They loved it! There were rabbits, ducklings, chickens, and a pig.

Aden's preschool teacher was out all week and at the last minute the scheduled substitute had to cancel. So, the principal (a.k.a "Daddy") filled in for her! Because "Daddy" was the teacher Aden AND Jonathan went to preschool ALL week! It was a blessing for all of us! Jonathan's dream of getting to go to school with Aden came true, Daddy and the boys got to spend LOTS of quality time together, and because I was home alone with just Elizabeth I got a ton of things checked off my ever-growing "to do" list. It was a great week but I did miss the boys and am looking forward to having them home again come Monday.
Anyway, Jonathan loved wearing Aden's backpack and scarcely takes it off now. I thought I'd post this sweet picture of my happy backpack-clad child.

"Daddy's Little Pumpkin"

This adorable outfit was a gift from Auntie Rebekah. It is just darling and we have been waiting for a day cool enough to wear it. Well, today was about as cool a day as we've had so we jumped on the opportunity! Thanks again Bex!

Silent Auction

Daniel's school (Kauai Christian Academy) had their Fall Festival last Saturday. The Fall Festival is the school's biggest annual fundraiser. It was great fun...carnival-type games, bounce houses, a petting zoo, tractor hay rides, paint ball wars, a bake sale, a food tent, and a silent auction. Anyway, about a month before the festival Daniel sent a flier home with all the students asking parents to round up donations (gift certificates or donated items from businesses, etc) for the silent auction. So, since visiting a bunch of businesses with three kids in tow would not be easy or enjoyable I decided to make up some burp cloth sets and donate them instead! I went to Wal-Mart and bought a package of cloth diapers and set to work.

Do you recognize any of the prints? These sets were made entirely from fabric scraps that I had left over from previous sewing projects.

Each set had two burp cloths and a coordinating wipes case. I had had the wipes cases since before Aden was born (I bought a dozen or so for making gifts and only used half of them...they had been up in his closet for four years! What a great way to clear them out!)

When I decided to do this I had no idea whether it would be worth the effort. I had never been to a silent auction before and wasn't even sure if this was the type of thing that you'd find at a silent auction. Well, they were a big hit! Each set had multiple bids on it and altogether made at least $100 for the school. It was neat to be able to turn a $14 pack of cloth diapers into $100+ for the school. I can't wait to do it again next year!

Bath time

Elizabeth really enjoys her baths. She's always very calm and relaxed and I enjoy the interaction with her during bath time. And, of course, there's nothing sweeter than a clean baby!
